by admin last modified 2007-10-09 00:59

It is down to each and every one of us to work through GCAP to end the injustices that cause poverty and inequality in the North and South.  Let’s make 2007 our best year yet.

The last two years have been landmarks in the global fight against poverty.  In January 2005, the Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) was launched at the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre and organized three whiteband days, at the G8 (Gleneagles, June), the Millennium Summit (New York, September) and the WTO Ministerial meeting (Hong Kong, December).

In 2006, GCAP continued to grow in strength and numbers and to date well over 50 million people have been inspired to take action.

2007 is a vital year for GCAP with further mass mobilisations planned throughout the year. Know what is happening in 2007

Stand Up 2007 LogoThe common slogan that has been agreed for all GCAP actions in 2007 is Stand Up and Speak Out, followed by a political demand appropriate to national and regional contexts.  This builds on the “Stand Up” action of 2006, while ensuring that we also “Speak Out” with strong policy demands to sharpen our political impact.

The white band continues as our common symbol of the struggle against poverty.
